Paris Olympic: Brazil swimmer in trouble for sneaking off with lover

Brazilian swimmer Ana Carolina Vieira has been expelled from the Olympic Games after sneaking out of the Olympic Village for a night out in Paris with her boyfriend, fellow swimmer Gabriel Santos. The incident occurred on July 26, shortly after Brazil’s disappointing exit from the 4x100m freestyle relay.

The escapade, which breached strict Olympic protocols, led to swift disciplinary action from the Brazilian Olympic Committee. Vieira’s reaction to being confronted by officials was described as “disrespectful and aggressively challenging,” resulting in her immediate expulsion from the Paris Games and a flight back to Brazil.

The Brazilian Confederation of Aquatic Sports (CBDA) confirmed the punishment in a statement, emphasizing the seriousness of the athletes’ actions. While Santos received a warning and issued an apology, Vieira faced a harsher penalty, highlighting the gravity of her response to the officials.

Brazil’s swim team leader, Gustavo Otsuka, expressed his disappointment, stating, “We’re not here playing or taking a vacation. We’re here working for Brazil, for the 200 million taxpayers who are working for us. We can’t play around here.”
