The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, made a state-wide broadcast on Friday night announcing the deployment of free ‘Omituntun’ transport buses to help alleviate the impact of the fuel scarcity and naira crisis on the state’s residents.

The move by the governor comes as a response to the current economic situation in the country, which has led to violent protests in some parts of the state.

In his address, Governor Makinde expressed his understanding of the reasons behind the protests and empathized with the people, acknowledging that when citizens are pushed to the brink, there is only so much they can take.

He emphasized that peaceful protests are a right and a responsibility, but warned against the potential for violence, condemning the recent violent protests that took place in Ibadan.

Governor Makinde has suspended all campaign activities in response to the situation and has been in talks with the heads of security agencies to restore calm and maintain peace in the state. He made it clear that violence cannot and will not solve the problems and that the only way to address oppressive systems is through the ballot.

He reassured residents that the security agencies are on high alert and law-abiding citizens have no cause for fear.

To mitigate the hardships caused by the fuel scarcity and naira crisis, the governor has directed that the Omituntun Mass Transit Buses be deployed to more routes within the state and be made available for free.

He is also working with local government chairmen to provide immediate aid to the most vulnerable people. Governor Makinde urged everyone to remain calm and promised to do his best to mitigate the hardships.

In conclusion, Governor Seyi Makinde’s announcement of the deployment of free transport buses and his efforts to provide aid to the most vulnerable people in the state are a step towards alleviating the effects of the fuel scarcity and naira crisis.

He has called for peaceful protests and condemned recent violent protests, putting security agencies on high alert to ensure the safety and security of the state’s residents.
