Olaniyan imppeached

The Oyo State House of Assembly has impeached the State’s Deputy Governor, Engineer Rauf Aderemi Olaniyan.

The Lawmakers removed Engineer Rauf Olanyan from the office of the Deputy Governor of Oyo State on Monday, July 18, 2022, at about 11:30 am.

The impeachment was announced on Monday, following the adoption of the recommendations of the report of the seven-member panel formed to investigate allegations against the deputy governor.

Members of the Peoples Democratic Party dominate the State House of Assembly (PDP).

As read by the Assembly’s majority leader, Honourable Sanjo Adedoyin, the deputy governor was found culpable and indicted on all allegations and complaints leveled against him.

The Assembly approved Olaniyan’s removal from office under section 188(9) of the 1999 constitution (as amended).

Olaniyan was elected in 2019 on a joint ticket with the current Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, on the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) platform until his recent defection to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
