Oyetola defeats Aregbesola, wins Osun APC governorship primary

Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, has been declared the winner of the APC governorship primary in the state, TopNaija reports.

In a keenly contested primary, the governor secured 221,169 votes to defeat a former Secretary to the Government of the State (SSG), Moshood Adeoti, and a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Lasun Yussuff.

Governor Oyetola was declared winner of the primary election by the Chairman of the poll, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazak of Kwara State, at the APC secretariat in Osogbo where votes from the 30 local government areas of the state were tallied. According to him, Oyetola won the election, having garnered 222,169 votes, against 12,921 votes that his closest challenger, Moshood Adeoti got.

He also said another of Oyetola’s challengers, Lasun Yusuf, got 460 votes and placed third. A total of 408,697 voters registered in the primary election of the party, while 247, 207 voters were accredited to vote. The total vote cast and valid votes were 235,550.

The APC conducted the exercise using the direct mode of primary across the 332 wards in the state. This mode allows all party members to choose the candidate of their choice as against the option of using delegates.
