“Our industry now taken over by Jezebels” — Charles Inojie
The devil from within, Nigerian actor, Charles Inojie has hit out at the growing trend plaguing the Nigerian cinema, specifically in regards to actresses using the Nollywood industry as a front to promote other affairs.
In a recent appearance on the Honest Bunch Podcast, the veteran comic actor lamented the lack of genuine interest in Nollywood among some of the new generation of actresses, arguing they view the industry solely as a promotional tool for their other ventures.
Charles Inojie goes on to label these actresses as “the daughters of Jezebel,” insinuating that they actively seek out Nollywood directors and producers with ulterior motives.
The comic actor remarked on the podcast that,
“Those who pay movie producers to secure roles in films are primarily pursuing titles.
“They simply want to associate themselves with Nollywood as a side hustle, often juggling other businesses. Their primary aim is to have a connection to the Nollywood brand.”
The actor noted that this phenomenon emerged during a period of increased influx into the industry, with individuals looking to capitalize on the industry’s popularity without a genuine commitment to building a lasting career in acting.
“It appeared as if the floodgates were opened for newcomers, and many of them were not interested in cultivating a career but instead sought to utilize the film industry as a stepping stone for other ventures,” he explained.
Inojie expressed concern that some individuals in the industry were solely driven by the desire to appear on camera, often exploiting their connections with producers and directors who lacked the necessary discernment to distinguish genuine talent from opportunism.
“There are many daughters of Jezebel in Nollywood. They can do anything just to be in front of the camera.
“And when you encounter individuals who are not well-versed in the industry as producers or directors, you become susceptible,” Inojie cautioned.
