What we are currently doing to enhance security, Osinbajo declares

Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has charged teeming youths in Nigeria to join politics as social media will not transform lives.

Osinbajo made this known on Monday in Abuja at the maiden Progressive Youth Conference planned by the All Progressives Congress (APC) youth wing.

The Vice President, in his speech entitled, “The Future is a Decision,” declared that more political participation by majority youths would assist them to make significant changes.

He said, “It is evident just from voter-turnout alone that the vast majority of young people either do not register to vote or do not vote.

“Those who even participate at all would rather engage within the very constrained space of social media platforms or join pressure groups.”

He said that social media “do not transform the lives of millions for good or ill”, and stated, “If you are keen on how the future will turn out, you must be involved in politics.”

Recollecting that he was in a number of groups, concerned with corruption, human rights and democracy, Vice President said it was only in 1999 when the Alliance for Democracy won elections in Lagos that he entered into government as Attorney General.

Osinabjo further said that it is important for young Nigerians already involved in politics to encourage others to also partake in it.

The Vice President advised youths not to be discouraged from joining politics due to negative opinions connected with politics in the nation.
