Osimhen named new Super Eagles penalty taker

Peseiro has named Victor Osimhen the first-choice penalty taker for Super Eagles after scoring 4 goals in their 10 – 0 win.

The Super Eagles coach noted the striker’s leadership qualities in the squad.

He would take over from Odion Ighalo, who last featured for the Eagles against Ghana in the 2022 World Cup play-off in March.

Osimhen recorded four goals for the Eagles against Sao Tome and Principe in their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

He also made two assists in the game as the Eagles moved top of Group A with six points ahead of Guinea Bissau.

The Napoli sensation passed his first opportunity to Dennis, who scored his first-ever for the team after six appearances.

According to Paseiro, “Osimhen is a leader in his personality and could have scored five goals against Sao Tome.

“I have appointed Osimhen as our designated penalty taker.

“But he gave Dennis the opportunity to score, I like his humility, he’s a good guy with a big heart and I appreciate it.”

Osimhen is currently rumoured to be a priority target for North London club, Arsenal as they lead the race to sign him.
