Orji’s son emerges Abia Speaker as states inaugurate assemblies

A son of former governor of Abia State, Theodore Orji, Chinedum Orji, has emerged Speaker of the 7th House of Assembly. Orji represents Umuahia East state constituency.

Other principal officers of the House include Ifeanyi Uchendu (PDP) (Deputy Speaker), Solomon Akpulonu of Obingwa East (PDP) (Majority Leader) and Munachim Alozie of Ugwunagbo (PDP) (Chief Whip).

Others are Abraham Oba of Aba Central (APGA) (Minority Leader), Paul Taribo of Ukwa East (PDP) (Deputy Majority Leader) and Chukwu Chijioke of Bende North (APC) (Deputy Minority Leader).

In his inaugural speech, Orji pledged that at all times, he would do his best and would not disappoint Abians.

Ogundoyin 31, is Oyo Speaker

Members of the Oyo State House of Assembly on Monday unanimously elected 31-year-old lawmaker from Ibarapa East Constituency, Debo Ogundoyin, as the Speaker of the house.

Ogundoyin was first elected into the Assembly in 2018 after the death of the speaker, Michael Adeyemo from Ibarapa East.

Olagunju Ojo from Oriire constituency in Ogbomoso was elected speaker after Adeyemo’s demise.

Coincidentally, the new speaker is from the late speaker’s constituency and also son of the late industrialist, Adeseun Ogundoyin from Eruwa, Ibarapa area of the state.

The ninth Assembly is dominated by the Peoples Democratic Party with 26 out of the 32 members.

The former ruling party, the All Progressives Congress has five lawmakers, leaving the Action Democratic Party with only one member.

Ex-deputy speaker, Oluomo, emerges Ogun Speaker

A former deputy speaker of 8th Ogun State House of Assembly, Olakunle Oluomo, has emerged the Speaker of the ninth state house of assembly.

Oluomo, a member of the APC and a three-term lawmaker from Ifo 1 state constituency, was elected the new speaker of the state assembly by all the 26 members of the assembly.

He was a sole nominee for the seat and was adopted by all the members of the assembly.

The assembly also elected Dare Kadiri, a member of the APC from  Ijebu North 2: (Ifelodun) constituency as deputy Speaker of the assembly.

Oborevwori re-elected as Delta Speaker

The 7th Delta State House of Assembly has re-elected Mr Sheriff Oborevwori as Speaker while Mr Christopher Ochor, member representing Ukwuani State Constituency emerged as the deputy speaker.

Oborevwori who was the Speaker of the immediate sixth assembly, was unanimously reelected by a voice vote by the 28 lawmakers.

Tim Owhefere, member representing Isoko North Constituency who led the nomination for the Speakership position of the Seventh Assembly, was seconded by Festus Okoh,  representing  Ika South Constituency.

Balarabe-Abdullahi re-elected Nasarawa’s Speaker

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly on Monday re-elected Ibrahim Balarabe-Abdullahi as Speaker in the 6th Assembly.

Balarabe -Abdullahi emerged speaker unopposed and was sworn in by the Clerk of the State Assembly, Mr Ego Maikeffi Abashe.

Gafasa sworn in as Kano Speaker

The Kano State House of Assembly on Monday elected a member representing Ajingi Constituency, Alhaji Abdulaziz Garba-Gafasa, as the new Speaker of the 9th Assembly.

His election followed his nomination by the member representing Dala constituency, Malam Lawan Hussain, of the Peoples Democratic Party during the first plenary session of the ninth Assembly.

Gafasa’s nomination was seconded by the member representing Doguwa Constituency, Alhaji Salisu Ibrahim-Riruwai.

A member representing Makoda constituency, Hamisu Cidari was also elected as the Deputy Speaker for the fourth time.

The legislators elected the member representing Warawa constituency, Alhaji Ayuba Labaran-Madari, as the Majority Leader and Alhaji Kabiru Alasan-Dashi, representing Kiru constituency as the Majority Leader of the Assembly.

Recall that Gafasa was first elected Speaker of the Assembly from 2007 to 2011, during the tenure of the former Governor Ibrahim Shekarau.

Magari elected as Katsina assembly Speaker

Also in Katsina, Tasiu  Maigari (Zango Constituency) on Monday emerged the Speaker of the 7th session of the Katsina State House of Assembly.

Shehu Tafoki (Faskari Constituency) emerged Deputy Speaker. Tafoki had earlier occupied the position during the 6th session of the assembly.

The House Clerk, Musa Umar made the announcement shortly after a plenary attended by the 34 members of the House.

Umar said the new Speaker, Maigari, scored 18 votes to defeat his rival, Nasiru Yahaya (Daura Constituency), who scored 16 votes.

Umar further revealed that the Deputy Speaker, Tafoki scored 20 votes to defeat his opponent, Abdulrazak Tsiga (Bakori Constituency) who got 14 votes.

Maigari was the Speaker of the house during its 6th session which ended on Friday.

Ubosi retains Enugu Assembly Speakership position

Members of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Monday, reelected the former speaker, Edward Ubosi, as the new speaker of the 7th Assembly.

Ubosi, representing Enugu East Urban Constituency was first elected into the Assembly in 2011 and in 2015.

Uche Ugwu, representing Udi North Constituency and first term member, was elected the Deputy Speaker.

The former Majority Leader of the Assembly, Melitus Ezeugwu, representing Udenu Constituency, was also reelected into his position.
