Ondo Police Issues 21-Day Ultimatum Over Illegal Possession Of Firearms

The Ondo State Police Command has issued a 21-day ultimatum to anyone in the state carrying illegal fire arms and ammunition to submit them to the nearest Divisional Police Officers around them.

Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Gbenga Adeyanju said the command had set up a three-man committee to embark on illegal fire arms and ammunition mop up.

Adeyanju, who gave the warning at a Press Conference at the Police headquarters, Igbatoro road, Akure, the state capital, said anyone caught with illegal fire arms and ammunition after 21-day would face the wrath of the law.

He said “in compliance to the directives of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the Ondo state Police Command has set up a three man committee to be charged with the responsibility of mopping up the illegal fire arms and ammunition

“All members of the public are thereby urged to submit all illegal fire arms and ammunitions in their possession to the nearest divisional Police officer in their domains who have been given instructions on what to do

“After 21 days, anybody who has illegal fire arms in their possession and have not submitted it willingly, and get caught with it, will have himself to blame for it.”

Also, the Command disclosed that it had recovered seven stolen Honda Sport Utility Vehicles (SUV) from a three-man gang of armed robbers in Akure.

Parading the suspects before journalists, Adeyanju gave their names as Fadamitan Desmond, Olayemi Adeoye and Imafidon Roland.

The Commissioner of Police said Adeoye was the prime suspect, who specialized in stealing vehicles in Akure, while the duo of Roland and Desmond were in the habit of selling the stolen vehicles.

“Upon Interrogation, the suspects confessed to have stolen the vehicles.Their leader Olayemi Adeoye narrated how they had been perpetrating the crimes within and outside Akure.

“Efforts are on to arrest other fleeing members of the gang. Suspects will be arraigned in court at the conclusion of investigation,” the Police commissioner said.

Speaking, the leader of the gang Adeoye explained that the vehicles were stolen with special keys.

He said: “anytime I identified a vehicle to be stolen, I will just go there with my special key and take it away. I will take it to him (Desmond) and he will give me N50,000.”
