Eight confirmed dead in tragic oil tanker explosion in Delta State community

Tragedy struck the serene community of Ometan in Delta State as a devastating explosion incident involving an oil tanker claimed the lives of at least eight individuals.

According to reports gathered, the catastrophic event unfolded on Friday, precipitated by the loss of control of the tanker while attempting to overtake another vehicle near the boundary bridge between Uvwie and Okpe Local Government Area.

Eyewitnesses recounted the harrowing moment when the front part of the oil tanker detached from the rear compartment, triggering a massive explosion that engulfed nearby buildings.

The blaze swiftly consumed all structures within its reach, trapping several residents who were unable to escape the inferno and resulting in fatal burns.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, upon learning of the tragedy, promptly visited the scene to offer condolences and support to the grieving community.

Accompanied by dignitaries including the Speaker of the House of Assembly and the former chairman of Okpe local government area, the governor expressed profound sadness at the loss of lives and pledged government assistance to the affected families.
