Ohanaeze condemns viral video urging harm to Yoruba, Edo

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has denounced a viral social media video urging the poisoning of Yoruba and Edo people, clarifying that the individual behind the video does not represent the Igbo community.

The group refuted any Igbo connection to the woman who posted the video on TikTok, stating that her behavior contradicts Igbo values of thoughtfulness, discretion, and harmony.

Dr. Alex Ogbonnia, National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, issued a statement on Wednesday in Enugu, saying the group’s attention was drawn to the video by its inflammatory content.

The video, posted by a user under the name “@Anyi_anambra,” called on the Igbo to poison the food of Yoruba and Edo people.

Despite the outcry, Ogbonnia emphasized that the video should be dismissed as the work of a deranged individual or a malicious online fabrication.

However, Ohanaeze Ndigbo chose to respond publicly after receiving numerous calls from concerned citizens, including a prompt for action from Afenifere’s National Publicity Secretary, Jare Ajayi.

Ogbonnia stated, “No Igbo person would entertain such an idea as harming others in a marketplace, knowing full well that their own kin might also be affected.”

He pointed out that Igbo people have a long history of integrating and contributing positively to communities across Nigeria, making the video’s rhetoric especially nonsensical.

Describing the person in the video as an “ethnic bigot with a satanic mindset,” Ogbonnia further highlighted the shared cultural ties and mutual respect among the Igbo, Yoruba, and Edo people.

He reassured the Afenifere and the broader Yoruba and Edo communities that such threats are baseless and should be ignored as “idiotic and meaningless.”

Ohanaeze called on Nigerian security agencies to identify and prosecute the person responsible for the video, stressing the importance of addressing such divisive actions to maintain national unity.
