Ohanaeze Ndigbo calls on President Tinubu to end marginalisation of South East

The apex socio-cultural group of Igbos, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address the ongoing marginalisation of the South East geopolitical zone.

In a statement on Thursday, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, emphasized the importance of supporting President Tinubu’s administration for the benefit of the zone.

Iwuanyanwu stated, “Any failure by Mr. President would be a calamity to Igbos who have made huge investments in many places in the country.”

He highlighted the expectation that the Federal Government reciprocate the support of the South East by addressing regional issues.

The Ohanaeze President-General thanked President Tinubu for appointing Rear Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla as Chief of Naval Staff and Engr. Dave Umahi as Minister of Works.

However, he pointed out several areas of marginalisation, including the disparity in state representation and ministerial appointments, lack of railway infrastructure, and the prolonged detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

Iwuanyanwu also recalled that despite the Southeast’s grievances, the region did not contest Tinubu’s victory in the 2023 presidential election aggressively.

He noted that when other regions demonstrated, the Southeast refrained from joining protests under his guidance.

The statement concluded with a call for President Tinubu to take immediate steps to end the marginalisation, investigate specific cases of discrimination, and promote equity and justice for the South East.
