Ogun State College of Nursing screens candidates for admission
The Ogun State Government has launched a three-day screening exercise for candidates seeking admission into the state’s College of Nursing. The exercise, aimed at post-UTME candidates, began on Thursday at the college in Abeokuta.
Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, represented by Dr. Tayo Lawal, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Health, emphasized the critical role of nursing in healthcare delivery.
“We aim to admit only the best candidates to maintain the college’s standards,” Coker stated, adding that the government seeks individuals who are passionate and committed to patient care.

The Ogun State College of Nursing screening marks the first of its kind since the college’s conversion from a school of nursing. Dr. Coker expressed satisfaction with the process’s conduct.
Mrs. Sherifat Aminu, a senior officer in the Department of Nursing Services at the Ministry of Health, noted that 360 candidates would be selected for admission based on quotas from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria and the National Board on Technical Education. She revealed that 2,094 candidates had applied for post-UTME forms since they were made available online in June.
Successful candidates will undertake a four-year uninterrupted program, receiving certifications in Ordinary National Diploma (OND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) in Nursing. They will also earn professional certificates in Registered Nursing, Midwifery, and Public Health Nursing, and be eligible for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
Omolade Salako, one of the candidates, shared her enthusiasm, saying the screening reaffirmed her aspiration to become a nurse. Another candidate, Balikis Adejimi, expressed confidence in her performance and optimism about gaining admission.
The screening exercise reflects the Ogun State Government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare standards by selecting qualified and passionate candidates to join the nursing profession.
