The Ogun State Police Command paraded a notorious member of the Eiye Confraternity, Adewale Adeoye, aka 16, and 30 others for different crimes on Tuesday.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Kenneth Ebrimson, paraded the suspects at the command headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for crimes like involvement in cultism, armed robbery, murder and illegal possession of firearms.

Ebrimson said the suspects were arrested by policemen in different parts of the state in the last one month.

While parading the suspects, Ebrimson said Adeoye was on the police wanted list in connection with cult-related killings in Ijebu-Ode and its environs.

He stated that Adeoye, a member of the Eiye Confraternity, was arrested alongside five others at their hideout in Ijebu-Ode.

The CP stated that two locally-made single-barrelled pistols, one double-barrelled pistol, 11 live cartridges, assorted charms and Indian hemp were recovered from them.

Speaking with journalists, Adeoye confessed to the crime and stated that he had killed three persons since he became a member of the confraternity.

He claimed that two of his victims were the killers of the leader of the Eiye Confraternity in Ijebu-Ode.

Adeoye identified his victims as Vandan, Koledowo and Abas.

He said he had been arraigned twice for similar crimes between 2012 and 2017.

The suspect stated, “I have been arraigned twice. I was first arraigned in 2012 and regained my freedom in 2015 because the complainant did not show up in court and they could not find anything incriminating against me.

“A few days after, the police came for my arrest again and kept me in custody for another two years before I regained my freedom again in 2017.”

He said he was the fourth in command in the confraternity in 2017 and later became the second in command a year later.

When asked if he renounced his membership of the cult after his arrest, Adeoye said, “I have not renounced my membership. They didn’t give me the chance because they told me that they would kill me if I renounced my membership.”

Others paraded were three suspected armed robbers, who were arrested at Agbara after robbing some victims.

The CP also paraded suspected cable thieves, who were nabbed around the Central Bank of Nigeria in Abeokuta.

Others were four ritualists, eight cultists and one suspected murderer, among others.
