The Ogun State Police Command has initiated a vigorous manhunt to apprehend a suspected hit-and-run driver who tragically killed two male travellers, identified as Yahaya Suleiman and Emeka, after knocking them off an overhead bridge at Kara Market on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
According to reports gathered by PUNCH, the incident occurred around 3:30 pm on Monday when the driver lost control of his vehicle and collided with three pedestrians who were waiting to board a commercial bus.
Eyewitnesses, including a sachet water seller known as Issa, recounted the harrowing scene, stating that the driver was speeding and lost control, resulting in the vehicle striking the pedestrians.
The impact of the collision caused Suleiman and Emeka to fall from the bridge to the ground below, while the third pedestrian, identified only as Ishola, sustained severe injuries and is currently hospitalized.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, informed our correspondent that Suleiman and Emeka succumbed to their injuries at the Lagos State Emergency Clinic, while Ishola remains under medical care.
“The driver was believed to have lost control of his vehicle before ramming into the three travellers who were waiting to board a vehicle on the bridge. The third traveller, Ishola, sustained serious injuries. He is still in the hospital,” Odutola stated.
She further disclosed that efforts are underway to locate and apprehend the hit-and-run driver responsible for the fatal incident. The bodies of the deceased have been transferred to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital for preservation and autopsy, while investigations continue to identify the driver and inform their families.
