Nigeria’s former President Olusegun Obasanjo has donated his former residence at the presidential hilltop, Abeokuta, Ogun state capital, to be used as isolation centre for the coronavirus pandemic.

Kehinde Akinyemi, Obasanjo’s media aide, revealed this in a statement on Friday.

The fully  furnished facility, located off the Presidential Boulevard, Oke Sari, Abeokuta, has 32 rooms en suite, with a standby generator.

He said the 32-room facility has been handed over to the state government.

The aide said Obasanjo is concerned about the pandemic, adding that “those who can in one way or another assist in this situation should do so”.

According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Nigeria has since recorded 70 cases of the pandemic disease.

The FCT now has 14 cases but Lagos has the highest number with 44 cases.

Oyo and Ogun states have three cases each. Ekiti, Edo, Osun and Rivers all have one each, while Bauchi has two.

Nigeria recorded its first fatality from the disease on Monday — Suleiman Achimugu, former managing director of the Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC), who returned from the UK before his passing.

Three patients have recovered and have been discharged from hospital.
