NYSC MoU in review with INEC, corps members’ safety Paramount

In the review of its Memorandum of Understanding with the Independent National Electoral Commission, the National Youth Service Corps has arranged for adequate welfare and security for corps members and NYSC officials in the 2023 elections.

 

The NYSC Director-General, Major General Shuaibu Ibrahim, while signing the review at the INEC headquarters in Abuja, on Tuesday, established that, the involvement of corps members in electoral process in Nigeria brings increased credibility to election results.

 

He assured that the Scheme will keep maintaining its relationship with INEC, praising corps members, for there willingness to always contribute their quota to developing the country emphasizing on credible outcomes for elections.

 

“I want to urge INEC that we will continue to sustain the relationship. I can assure you that corps members are willing, patriotic and ready to put in their best in the service of the country,” he said.

 

According to the speech made by the INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, having the NYSC Scheme is a blessing. He added that the Scheme’s involvement in previous elections has been praiseworthy throughout the federation.

 

“I cannot imagine the conduct of credible elections happening in Nigeria without the NYSC. Youth Corps members are among the most educated, most committed, most patriotic and the most readily available election-duty staff in Nigeria,” INEC Chairman said.

 

The reviewed Memorandum of Understanding according to Mahmood, now identifies eleven obligations for INEC and ten for the NYSC.
