The Federal Government had stated that they have approved a monthly NYSC allowance of N77,000 naira ($47), however, many corp members seem to have lost hope in this as they are yet to receive the FG’s promise.
TopNaija understands that the Nigerian government had earlier stated that Youth Corps members will begin to receive the new allowance of N77,000 instead of N33,000. The government also said that this new payment will be backdated to July 2024, according to a statement from NYSC spokesperson Caroline Embu.
She stated that this increase aligns with the implementation of the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024.
In her words, “We received the information from a letter sent by the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, dated 25th September 2024, and signed by the Chairman, Ekpo Nta.”
Sadly, at the time of filing this report, many corp members have gone online to call out the government over their failed promise. While some haven’t received their September allowance, many who claimed to have received theirs said they were sent N33,000 instead of the promised minimum wage plus a 10% increment.
While all government workers and employees are celebrating the new minimum wage increment, many Corp members are sad and expectant of good reports if possible.
Many have stormed the microblogging platform, Twitter to let out their tears and grief.
