NSCDC detains 19-year-old kidnapping suspect in Kwara State

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Kwara State Command has apprehended a 19-year-old suspect, Abu-Umar, over his alleged involvement in the abduction of a woman and her two children in Ajase-Ipo, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.

Speaking during a press briefing in Ilorin on Monday, the State Commandant of NSCDC, Umar Mohammed, confirmed the detention of the suspect, who reportedly orchestrated the November 7 abduction of Isiaka Halimah and her sons, Kabir and Hassan Isiaka.

Mohammed revealed that Abu-Umar had previously worked for the victims’ family and was linked to the crime after the kidnappers used his phone to contact the family for ransom negotiations.

“While the mother, Halimah, has been released, the two children remain in captivity,” Mohammed said, adding that the NSCDC is collaborating with other security agencies to secure their release.

The commandant reassured the public of the agency’s commitment to combating criminal activities and ensuring the safety of residents across Kwara State.

“We will continue working tirelessly with other security forces to recover the remaining victims and bring those responsible to justice,” he concluded.

The case underscores ongoing efforts by law enforcement to address kidnapping and related crimes in the region.
