Notorious cultist killed by rival cultists in Lagos

A cult clash between the Aiye and Eiye Confraternity has left a suspected Aiye cultist, identified simply as Waidi, aka OBJ, dead.

Waidi was driving from the Ifako area to Oworonshoki when the suspected cultists rammed his vehicle from behind.

It was learnt that Waidi alighted from the vehicle to assess the damage and the suspected cultists took advantage of the situation to attack him.

Our correspondent gathered that Waidi was dealt several machete blows and fled the scene, but his attackers pursued him and pinned him down at a church and he was further dealt machete blows until he died.

The tension created by the attack was said to have made residents to run helter-skelter and business owners in the area hurriedly closed shop for fear of reprisal.

Waidi’s group, while avenging his death, reportedly killed a yet-to-be-identified member of the Eiye Confraternity.

In a bid to prevent more reprisals, men of the state police command were said to have been mobilised in the area to douse the tension and restore normalcy.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, while reacting to the development, said two suspects, Sunday Moses and Stephen Jacob, were arrested in connection with the killings, adding that a manhunt had been launched for the fleeing members of the groups.

Elkana stated, “Around 8.30pm on Sunday, one Waidi, aka OBJ, a notorious Aiye Confraternity kingpin, was attacked on his way to the Oworonshoki area from Ifako, along the Oworonshoki Expressway. The assailants hit his vehicle from behind and when he alighted to take a look at the vehicle to know the extent of damage, he was attacked with machetes.

“He ran into the Goodland Church at Ifako bus stop and his assailants chased him into the church and murdered him. His group, in reprisal, killed a yet-to-be-identified member of the Eiye Confraternity.

“Two suspects, Sunday Moses and Stephen Jacob, have been arrested, while a manhunt has been launched for Elba, Elebe, Ayomide, Demola and Elsi, all fingered as having participated in the killings. The area remains calm as a patrol team led by the Area ‘H’ Commander is in the area.”
