"Nothing must happen to Dele Farotimi" — Kenneth Okonkwo warns

Nollywood veteran and politician Kenneth Okonkwo has issued a stern warning over the safety of detained human rights lawyer, Dele Farotimi. Farotimi remains in custody over a defamation case involving renowned legal luminary Afe Babalola, and his continued incarceration has sparked nationwide debate.

Taking to Instagram, Okonkwo expressed fears for Farotimi’s well-being behind bars, calling on authorities to ensure his safety.

“Dele Farotimi was hale and hearty when he was unjustly arrested. He must be healthier whenever he comes out since the government that is holding him unjustly is wealthier than him,” Okonkwo wrote.

The actor-politician did not mince words, hinting at possible foul play should anything untoward happen to the activist lawyer. He warned against any “cardiac arrest” narrative or sudden health complications, emphasizing that “the whole world is watching.”

Okonkwo’s fiery statement further highlights the growing tension surrounding Farotimi’s detention, as many see it as a test of judicial independence and human rights in Nigeria. The question on everyone’s mind now is: Will the authorities heed the warning, or will this defamation case take a darker turn?
