"Not just once, we did it twice" -- Ten Hag on the upcoming season

Manchester United boss, Erik ten Hag knows what is coming next season as the Red Devils continue their tour of the United States.

Erik ten Hag in a recent interview, has thrown down the gauntlet for the upcoming season, declaring it will be the “survival of the fittest.”

After narrowly missing out on a top-four finish last season but clinching the FA Cup by defeating Manchester City, the Red Devils are gearing up for a challenging campaign.

With new signings Lenny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee set to make their mark in a pre-season clash against Arsenal, Ten Hag emphasized the importance of squad depth and fitness.

“We know that because [when] we have injuries, we are vulnerable, and we have to avoid this. First, by getting less injuries and picking up less injuries. And second, our squad has to be that good in depth,” he stated during a pre-match news conference.

Ten Hag underscored the need for consistency, highlighting United’s ability to defeat top teams.

“We proved we can beat the best team. Not just once, we did it twice. But also the other games were also very close. Our challenge is to do it consistently, that’s what we have to work for.”

The Red Devils despite being at their best against the best teams last season, had one of the worst seasons overall in Manchester United’s history, thus making whatever outcome the team had against the best teams in the 2023/24 campaign a shadow than a tangible achievement.
