Nollywood icon ‘Mr. Ibu’ to be laid to rest: Family announces burial date

The family of the late Nollywood icon, John Ikechukwu Okafor, popularly known as ‘Mr. Ibu,‘ has announced his burial date.

Mr. Ibu, who recently passed away in Lagos after battling diabetes, will be laid to rest on June 28 in his hometown, Amuri, Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State.

Hon. Monday Ani, the Chairman of the burial Planning Committee, stated that Mr. Ibu would be honoured as a hero.

The late actor’s family, in a joint statement signed by Elder Sunday Okafor (Mr. Ibu’s elder brother) and his immediate family, expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and support.

The burial ceremonies will span five days, commencing on Tuesday, June 25, with a high-profile novelty match. This will be followed by a candlelight procession and live entertainment on Wednesday, June 26.

On June 27, a Christian Wake-Keep will be held at his compound in Eziokwe Amuri, Nkanu West, leading up to the funeral service on June 28.

The final day of the ceremonies, Sunday, June 30, will feature a Church Thanksgiving for family members, friends, and well-wishers.

The Okafor family invites everyone to join them in celebrating the life of their beloved icon.

The late Mr. Ibu left a legacy of love, laughter, and liveliness, and his family aims to honor him with a befitting farewell.
