On Saturday, April 23, 2022, All Presidential aspirants from various political parties will converge on the State House Conference Centre at 06:30 pm for a Ramadan Iftar dinner with the First Lady, Aisha Buhari.

In an invitation letter sighted by TopNaija, the invitees were instructed not to come along with their mobile devices, except for their invitation cards which would serve as their entry pass.

However, this directive will not apply to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and governors and ministers who are expected to be at the meeting; TopNaija can confirm

In a phone interview with our correspondent, the spokesperson of the First Lady, Aliyu Abdullahi, who confirmed the meeting said, “There is nothing here. This is a standard operational protocol in the Villa when you are having a meeting with either of the three occupants of the Presidency.

“If they are coming for an event, this is supposed to be DSS enforced when the president is having an event or the Vice President is having an event or the first lady is having an event. Because outsiders will come. That’s the security and standard protocol.

“That does not apply to the Vice President. How can you expect that to apply to the Vice President or even to ministers?”

Aisha Buhari is a member of the United Kingdom Vocational Training and Charitable Trust and the International Health and Beauty Council.

In July 2014, Aisha advised Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to resign from office as president of Nigeria, following a suicide bombing and an alleged assassination attempt on her husband.

Aisha Buhari is a vocal advocate of women’s rights and children’s rights, and this was a focal point during her campaign for her husband’s election in 2015. Aisha has, on several occasions, emphasized the need for young girls to get primary and secondary school education before getting married, saying that she believes no girl should get married before the age of 17. She has also criticized child marriage and homosexuality.

In May 2015, on the sidelines of the Global Women Conference held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, she stressed the need for Nigerian laws that will protect the women from forced early marriages, sex trafficking and other issues Nigerian girls and women contend with. Aisha raised concerns on child sexual abuse in Nigeria, sex trafficking and the need for legislation against early marriage
