No one criticized Ronaldo for taking Saudi Money — Robbie Fowler
Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has come to the defense of Jordan Henderson and Steven Gerrard, hitting back at their critics by drawing a parallel with Cristiano Ronaldo’s transfer.
Steven Gerrard was recently appointed as the manager of Saudi Arabian Pro League (SPL) side Al-Ettifaq on a lucrative deal, while Henderson has reportedly been offered a staggering £700,000 per week salary to join Gerrard at Al-Ettifaq.
Former Liverpool winger Jermain Pennant criticized Henderson, questioning whether the England midfielder deserves such a massive salary.
However, Robbie Fowler has countered this criticism, pointing out that people did not scrutinize Ronaldo when the former Manchester United forward made a high-profile move to SPL side Al-Nassr in a mega-money deal.
Addressing the issue, Fowler expressed his disagreement with those who condemn Henderson and Gerrard for considering moves to Saudi Arabia. He emphasized that the decision to work in Saudi Arabia is not solely about money and urged people not to judge them unfairly.
Robbie Fowler further highlighted the discrepancy in how footballers’ salaries are often questioned while the billions earned by finance companies go unchallenged.
“Let’s get one thing straight. I am not going to condemn Jordan Henderson, Steven Gerrard, or anyone else who has gone to work in Saudi Arabia or is considering doing so,” Fowler stated.
He emphasized that the focus should not solely be on financial aspects, highlighting the broader factors involved in such decisions.
The Liverpool legend further underscored the absence of criticism directed at Ronaldo when he opted to join Al-Nassr. Fowler’s comments serve to highlight the inconsistency in how certain transfers are scrutinized while others are not subjected to the same level of criticism.
As discussions around the moves of Henderson and Gerrard to Al-Ettifaq continue, Fowler’s defense of the two Liverpool icons sheds light on the complex dynamics of football transfers and challenges the negative judgments surrounding their choices.
