Abia Warriors’ technical adviser, Imama Amapakabo, has lauded his team’s narrow but hard-fought 1-0 win over Kwara United, describing it as a crucial step in reigniting their momentum after a tough outing in Enugu the previous week.

The match, held at the Umuahia Township Stadium on Sunday, saw Sunday Megwo deliver the decisive goal, helping the Warriors secure all three points in this matchday six fixture of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

Imama Amapakabo, relieved by the win, emphasized how important it was to get back on track.

“It’s a valuable point as we needed this victory to get us back on the road with belief,” he said during his post-match interview.

“Tough as it is now, with the league being so competitive, there are no minor teams anymore. Everyone comes out to play, and it was an exciting game. It’s a well-deserved three points for us.”

The victory pushed Abia Warriors to ninth place on the NPFL table with eight points, signaling a potential turnaround for the team as they aim to climb the standings.

Imama Amapakabo acknowledged the increasing competitiveness of the league, stating that the gap between teams is narrowing, making every match a true battle.

“Every team now comes prepared to fight, and it’s clear that the NPFL is no longer a league where you can underestimate anyone.”

After their disappointing result in Enugu last week, where the team was left frustrated by a poor performance, this win was a much-needed boost for Amapakabo’s squad.

He admitted that securing victories in such a competitive environment requires resilience and determination, traits he believes his team showcased against Kwara United. The coach is hopeful that the win will inspire confidence in the players as they continue their campaign.

For the fans, it was a nerve-racking match, but Sunday Megwo’s clinical finish was enough to send them home smiling.
