NLC demands immediate reversal of fuel price hike in Nigeria

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called for an immediate reversal of the recent hike in petrol prices across the country.

In a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) page on Tuesday night, the NLC demanded that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) roll back the increase in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).

The NLC’s statement read: “We demand the immediate reversal of the latest increase in the pump price of PMS across the country.”

Earlier in the day, NLC President Joe Ajaero expressed deep disappointment with President Bola Tinubu’s administration following the NNPCL’s decision to raise the official price of fuel from N617 to N897 per litre.

Ajaero stated that the union felt betrayed, as the acceptance of the N70,000 minimum wage had been based on an understanding that there would be no further increases in fuel prices.

Ajaero warned that the NLC’s leadership would be meeting soon to deliberate on the situation and make decisions that would be communicated to the public.
