Former president Olusegun Obasanjo on Tuesday publicly advised President Muhammadu Buhari against seeking re-election in 2019.

Obasanjo, in a lengthy statement, stated that Buhari and the All Progressive Congress have failed Nigerians.

The statement has thrown the internet agog.

Some Nigerians on Twitter backed Obasanjo’s position and urged Buhari to heed the advise.

They also recalled that Buhari wife, Aisha, recently insisted that a cabal was running her husband’s the government.

However, others lambasted the former leader and accused him of playing to the gallery.

Below are some comments:

@eyitee “Baba OBJ spoke the mind of well meaningful Nigerians. This administration has been nothing short of disaster, the best is to look for creative solutions by allowing new ideas to rule this country.

@enwironH “Inasmuch as i don’t always agree with former President Obasanjo, he has hit the nail precisely on the head in this instance. APC should own up and stop any further ambition to the highest office especially with their foremost candidate. Either way, APC will lose by God’s grace.

@adeyanju “Just finished reading Baba Obasanjo’s letter. The summary is simple: Buhari has failed and should go and rest but PDP that is now controlled by Wike is not an option. He says a 3rd option is the only way out and Nigerians must arise to take charge of the country.

@Rossylagus “Well said and analysed President Obasanjo. The destiny of Nigeria lies in the hands of Nigerians. There is hope for our nation as long as we all see it a matter of duty to stop all these opportunist politicians from ever getting power in our nation.

@Kmefoh “The Oracle has spoken, hate it or love it. Obasanjo is still a force. Now sit back and watch the international bodies lean towards this his assertion because he’s the most respected out of all leaders present and past.

@Akinothman “I totally agree with Gen(Dr) Obasanjo without any reservations.@MBuhari must be reminded that an actor leaves when ovation is loudest! Those prompting him for 2019 r doing so for their selfishness!

@adegoke “The elites have tested the harsh bitterness of lack of inflow from Abuja. They know if PMB stays till 2023 a lot of them will sell their remaining ill gotten assets. OBJ that shared Nigerians money for third term.

@nwosu “The boss of all bosses have spoken, PDP should give his anointed candidate a ticket then buhari is a forgone issue.

@Afeezman “OBJ is an experienced Politician that knows when to leave a sinking ship. It is now left for @MBuhari to take his advice or perish.

@Nedunaija “Obasanjo who supported you in 2015 has asked you not to run on account of your GLARING incompetence. Your wife who campaigned with you in 2015 is not willing to support you. Baba, go home please.

@ogunmuyiwa “Was he not president for 8 yrs? What did he do rather than seeking for 3rd time. This old man should just keep quite.

@Nosa “Pot calling kettle black. @MBuhari only have himself to blame. If he had been strong enough to visit their sins on them.

@Ogundamisi “Olusegun Okikiola Obasanjo made valid points against @MBuhari and I hope @AsoRock does not dismiss those points, but Obasanjo failed to list one important failure of Buhari as @NGRPresident and that is that rogues such as Obasanjo are still walking free with their massive loot.”
