Nigerian Senator Ignatius Longjan is dead

Former Deputy Governor of Plateau State, and Senator representing Plateau South, Ignatius Longjan is dead.

Longjan died on Monday, TopNaija learnt. Until his death, the 75-year-old lawmaker was a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). As at time of filing this report, details of Longjan’s death was not confirmed, but efforts are on to confirm same.

President Buhari has since commiserated with family, friends and political associates of the senator, who served the state as a deputy governor, 2011-2015, and had also served the country as a career diplomat for many years.

President Buhari affirmed that the senator had been steadfast, loyal and diligent in serving the country and his contributions to peace and stability in the state would always be remembered.

The President prayed that the almighty God would grant the soul of the departed rest, and comfort his family and constituency.

The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, has also commiserated with the family of Ignatius Longjan, the senator who died at a Turkish hospital in Abuja on Sunday after a brief illness.

Mr Lawan also condoled with the government and people of Plateau State over the sad loss of the senator who represented Plateau South Senatorial District until his death.

In a statement by his media aide, Ola Awoniyi, the Senate President acknowledged the contributions of Mr Longjan both at the state and national levels as former Chairman of the Board of Governors of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies(NIPSS), Kuru; former Chief of Staff at the Government House in Jos and Plateau State Deputy Governor between 2011 and 2019.
