Nigerian Railway Corporation Complains Of Lack Of Funds After Train Accident

Published

on

According to the Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, Fidet Okhiria, the recent train accident in Lagos State was caused by human neglect on the part of the bus driver.

He also stated that the corporation had no funds to replace vandalized barriers that were installed to prevent people from tampering with the rail tracks.

The barriers had been vandalized four times in the area, making it impossible for the corporation to replace them due to inadequate funding.

In response to preventing future accidents, Okhiria suggested that the corporation will continue to enlighten the public in partnership with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

He emphasized the need for drivers and Nigerians to discipline themselves and have patience, adding that government efforts are underway to build flyovers and underpasses to separate the rail from the road.

However, the government cannot undertake such projects simultaneously as it will worsen the traffic situation in Lagos.
