1. The Boko Haram sect Wednesday evening hit Borno State again, killing several persons.

Emergency Response Team (ERT) from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Borno State Emergency Management Agency (BOSEMA) and Red Cross have already responded to the incident which occurred around Muna Garage along Mafa Dikwa road in Maiduguri.

2. The Nigerian Senate, on Wednesday witnessed a rowdy session as it was about recording the first official cross-carpeting for the year 2018.

Senator Sonni Ogbuoji (Ebonyi South) had come under order 43 of the rules of the Senate to announce his official defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) but was prevented by his colleagues.

3. Senator representing Bauchi Central Senatorial district has taken a swipe at President Muhammadu Buhari, saying, he was never in charge of governance, but has left the nation in the hands of cabals in the Villa.

In his contribution on the floor of the Senate, Misau said that Ministers have failed woefully in discharging their responsibilities.

4. The Presidency on Wednesday advised Fulani herdsmen in Nigeria to embrace modern techniques of cattle rearing.

According to the Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Political Matters, Babafemi Ojudu, the adoption of modern techniques for rearing of cattle would put an end to the persistent clashes between herdsmen and farmers across the country.

5. Yusufu Akirikwen, Taraba Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice says that the state has no land for cattle colonies as proposed by the Buhari government.

Akirikwen on Wednesday in Jalingo told journalists that the state government had enacted a law for the establishment of ranches which would come into effect on January 24.

6. A Nigerian Air Force (NAF) remotely piloted aircraft (RPA), yesterday destroyed a Boko Haram workshop in the Sambisa general area.

Air Vice Marshal, Olatokuno Adesanya, Director of Public Relations and Information, in a statement, said a NAF Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platform had previously discovered that Boko Haram vehicles were parked in the location.

7. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has arraigned Justice Mohammed Yinusa before a Lagos High Court Sitting in Ikeja.

He was arraigned on a 5 count charge of corruption, alongside one Esther Agbo, a staff of the Law Firm of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria.

8. No fewer than 400 medical doctors stormed the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) in Plateau state armed with a mock coffin in the early hours of Wednesday.

They protested the management of the hospital. The doctors also took their protests to the streets of Jos at 8:30 am after laying siege to the complex of JUTH, Punch reports.

9. The apex Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has rejected the proposal by the Federal Government to establish grazing colonies for Fulani herdsmen across the country, saying the recent killings of people by the herdsmen in Benue and Taraba states have exposed the dangerous path, which Nigeria would be walking through with such a gamble.

They called on the Federal Government to forthwith declare the rampaging Fulani herdsmen terrorists, warning that allowing them to continue to kill, maim and destroy people’s farmland would push communities to engage in self-defence.

10. Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has warned against the killing of anyone, either herdsman or farmer in the name of any clash relating to grazing in the state.

The governor, who met with Fulani herdsmen of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders’ Association of Nigeria, farmers, local hunters, security agencies and representatives of the Tiv community in the state, warned Fulani herdsmen and Tiv farmers against turning Ekiti to a war zone.
