1. Former military president, Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, Sunday asked President Muhammadu Buhari to bury his second term ambition for the good of the country.

Babangida said it was time to sacrifice “personal ambition” for “national interest” and added that he will support a fresh breed of leadership in the 2019 elections.

2. Report says there is an ongoing pandemonium at the Federal University of Technology, Yola, FUTY, over claim by Muslims students that, a fellow student made a blasphemous remark against Prophet Muhammed.

According to the students who are currently on the run following the unrest at the campus, few weeks to the Student Union Government, SUG election, there was a threat by a student on a Facebook page warning the school authority to take action against the alleged claim of blasphemy or the Muslim students would take all necessary action to stop academic activities in the institution.

3. Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, has called for the dismissal of the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Ibrahim Idris over his poor handling of the Fulani, farmers’ crisis in some states.

HURIWA National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko and National media Affairs Director, Zainab Yusuf, HURIWA demanded the IGP’s dismissal for “crass incompetence and compromise” for his highly “insensitive and irresponsible conclusions.”

4. The National Council of Tiv Youths has insisted that President Muhammadu Buhari is playing a script by refusing to arrest the leaders of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders’ Association of Nigeria, MACBAN.

The youths said Buhari’s failure to arrest MACBAN’s leadership was an indication that something was fundamentally wrong with the current Federal Government.

5. A new report by the Economic Confidential has disclosed that the Federal Government, 36 states and the 774 local government councils in Nigeria shared a total sum of N5.9 trillion from the Federation Account in 2017 in spite of the economic recession witnessed during the period.

While the Federal Government and its agencies received a total sum of NN2.5, trillion the other tiers of government shared N3.3 trillion; the total allocation of N3.3tr to States and their Local Government Councils is N700 billion above the N2.6 trillion they received in the previous year of 2016.

6. The Federal Government said, weekend, it has created millions of jobs through programmes cutting across many sectors.

Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said over seven million jobs had been created in the agriculture sector alone.

7. Suspected Fulani herdsmen have again attacked some communities in Ketu Local Council Development Area in Ogun State three days after a stakeholders’ meeting was held with the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu.

The Coordinator-General and Director of Public Affairs of Ketu Advancement Forum, Kunle Abiose and Williams Olayode respectively said the herders invaded their farms, hewing down palm trees for their herds to graze on.

8. The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has decried what it called the gross insensitivity of those at the helm of national security affairs to the alleged arrest of Mr. Bur Dooior, the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in charge of Gboko Police Station, Benue State.

IPOB in a statement by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, said the kind of injustice meted on the DPO, said to be of Tiv extraction in Benue State, where Fulani herdsmen on the eve of the New Year murdered 73 people, could only be obtained in Nigeria, where reason and common sense are always in short supply.

9. Activist lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) has accused National Security Adviser (NSA) Babagana Monguno of “acting illegally” in the deportation of 52 naturalized Nigerians to Cameroon two weeks ago.

He said yesterday in a statement that under the National Security Agencies Act (Cap N74) Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 and the Immigration Act 2015, NSA Monguno is not competent to arrest, detain and deport any alien or immigrant from Nigeria to any other country.

10. Morocco on Sunday hammered the Super Eagles 4-0 in the final of the 2018 African Nations Championship at the Stade Mohamed V, Casablanca.

Two goals from Hadraf and one each from El Karti and tournament top scorer Ayoub El Kaabi gave the hosts their first title of the competition exclusively for players plying their trade in their country’s domestic leagues.
