1. The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has dismissed the application by the Indegenous People of Biafra, IPOB, to reverse the court’s order proscribing it and designating it as a terrorist group. The Acting Chief Justice, Abdu Kafarati, while delivering his ruling on the application held that September 20, 2017 proscription order was validly issued.
2. Suspected herdsmen have reportedly attacked Orin community in Ekiti State, killing a pregnant woman.The eight months pregnant woman was a Tiv from Benue State. Several others were injured in the attack.
3. The Nigeria Police has confirmed the existence of armed militia groups in Benue State, claiming that the guards are equipped with sophisticated weapons. This was disclosed by the Force PRO, Jimoh Moshood. He said the police has enough evidence to support their claim.
4. President Muhammadu Buhari met with some chieftains of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Thursday night.In attendance were former governors of Sokoto, Kano, Abia and Enugu, Senator Aliyu Wamako, Senator Rabiu Kwankaso, Orji Kalu and Sullivan Chime respectively.
5. Report says the Kogi State Chairman of the Christians Association of Nigeria, CAN, Bishop John Ibenu and a former minister from the state, Chief Gabriel Aduku, reportedly escaped assassination attempts on them by men suspected to be Fulani herdsmen in Kogi State The Bishop narrowly escaped when gunmen attacked him and riddled his car with bullets.
6. Former Lagos state Governor, Bola Tinubu, has spoken on herdsmen killings in the country. Tinubu, in a paper he delivered at the Daily Trust dialogue, urged government to establish a relief and rehabilitation program for families and communities that have been so grievously harmed.
7. The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has denied reports that Engineering Department of the National Engineering and Technical Company (NETCO), its subsidiary is recruiting. The management warned the public to disregard such adverts on some social media platforms.
8. The death toll of victims of Lassa fever in Ebonyi State has risen to four, while over 139 persons have been placed under surveillance in the state. The state Commissioner for Health, Dr Daniel Umezurike revealed that a total of 9 cases have been confirmed, while 3 are at critical stage of treatment.
9. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has directed all tertiary institutions to end their 2017 admission by January 25.The Board’s Head of Media, Fabian Benjamin, disclosed this in an interview with the media in Abuja.
10. One person has confirmed dead, several houses razed and others missing after Fulani herdsmen and farmers clashed in Okpokwu LGA of Benue State. Report says the incident occurred in Ingle Odidi community.
