Nigeria wins first gold in Tokyo Paralympics

Nigeria has officially been awarded its first Gold Medal in the ongoing Paralympics competition in Tokyo, Japan.

Latifat Tijani has won Nigeria’s first gold medal at the ongoing Tokyo Paralympic Games. She won the gold on Thursday in women’s 45kg powerlifting.

She defeated China’s Zhe Cui to lift 107kg.

Topnaija recalls that Youth and Sports Development Minister, Sunday Dare, expressed confidence that Team Nigeria to the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games will live up to billings and do the nation proud

Mr Dare said: “Based on condition precedent and the resilience of our special athletes especially when on international assignments, I do not doubt in my mind that these athletes will again make Nigeria proud.”

This development has brought hope as the country was off to a bad start in the competition as all the five para-table tennis players lost their opening games on Wednesday.
