Nigeria vs. South Africa: A hostile game of serious consequences

The AFCON Semi-final pits Nigeria against South Africa, and ahead of the Wednesday clash, the High Commission of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has sounded a warning to its citizens residing in South Africa.

Nigeria facing South Africa in international competitions has in recent times grown to have consequences in its aftermath, with many Nigerians reported to have suffered Xenophobic attacks as a result.

Ahead of the semi-final tie, the High Commission of Nigeria has risen to action to caution Nigerians residing in South Africa to lower their emotions should the Super Eagles prevail into the final.

In a letter shared across social media platforms, the Commission has drawn its public to their use of social media before, during and in the aftermath of the game.

This, according to the Commission is to protect lives that may inadvertently suffer in a case of a provocative attack.

Tension rises as both sides are set to march out in Bouake, with Bafana Bafana’s heroics against Cape Verde giving the Super Eagles and its fans something to worry about ahead of the clash.

So far, history has the Super Eagles back as they have seen 7 victories, drawn five and lost only two times against the Bafana Bafana in their previous meetings.

However, history does not guaranty victory, and this time, the Super Eagles may have to do things without Victor Osimhen to inspire the team to victory like in the previous stages.
