Nigeria sets COVID-19 record as Delta overtakes Lagos in active cases

On Thursday, Nigeria recorded 1,584 cases of COVID-19 Friday, beating the 1,424 recorded 15 December and up from the 1,051 logged, Top Naija reports.

 

NCDC reported one case of death taking the death toll to 2,984, while cumulative confirmed cases jumped to 222,655.

According to NCDC data, Lagos led the nine states and the FCT Abuja that detected cases with another record 906 cases.

This was higher than its previous record on 15 December when it logged 796 cases.

NCDC data revealed that Lagos, despite recent explosion in COVID-19 cases, only has 1,616 active cases. Delta state is recorded to have the highest active cases, estimated at 1,780.

The NCDC did not explain the discrepancy. Delta last reported 152 COVID cases on 15 December.
