Nigeria Police Force addresses controversial Spy Police Video
The Nigeria Police Force has responded to a video circulating on social media showing an individual in a Spy Police uniform making political comments about the upcoming Edo State gubernatorial elections.
ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force’s Public Relations Officer, clarified that the individual is not a regular police officer but a Supernumerary Police Officer employed by a private company.
In a statement posted on the X platform, ACP Adejobi emphasized that Supernumerary Police Officers, while trained by the Nigeria Police, are not on the official payroll and do not take the same oath of allegiance as regular officers.
They are allowed political expression and affiliations but are prohibited from engaging in political activities while in uniform.
The Police Force condemned the misuse of the Spy Police uniform for political purposes and assured the public that the comments made by the individual do not reflect the views of the Nigeria Police Force. The officer has been arrested and is under investigation.
The Nigeria Police Force urges the public to disregard any misleading statements and reaffirms its commitment to professionalism, neutrality, and adherence to the rule of law.
