Nigeria not a Failure -- FG replies Peter Obi

Nigeria is not a failed state, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris comes to the defence of the Bola Tinubu led administration.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation in his defense, acknowledged that President Bola Tinubu is currently facing challenges.

In response to criticisms on Nigeria receiving food aid from war torn Ukraine, Idris defended Nigeria’s decision to accept grains the European nation, stressing that it does not signify weakness or indicate that the country is a failed state.

This statement comes following criticism from Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, who condemned Nigeria’s acceptance of grain donations from Ukraine, labeling it as disheartening.

Addressing the issue at the Leadership Annual Conference and Award 2023 held in Abuja on Tuesday, the minister refuted claims of Nigeria’s failure, citing Egypt as an example. He pointed out that Egypt receives approximately 60 percent of its grains from Ukraine but is not considered a failed state.

Idris stressed that while Nigeria is currently encountering challenges, it does not diminish its status as a functioning state. He emphasized the importance of countries depending on each other and highlighted President Tinubu’s awareness of the challenges and his efforts to address them.

“Nigerians voted for Tinubu with the understanding that he possesses the capacity to enact positive change,” Idris stated. “And that is precisely what he is endeavoring to achieve.”
