Nigeria Customs seizes N1.687 billion worth of bulletproof jackets
The Nigeria Customs Service has confiscated 150 cartons of bulletproof jackets valued at N1.687 billion in its Zone A Federal Operations Unit in Lagos.
Kola Oladeji, the Customs Area Controller for the unit, disclosed this information to journalists on Thursday.
Oladeji reported that the illegal goods were seized on the Ijebu-Ode-Sagamu Expressway in Ogun State. Each carton contained 10 packs of bulletproof jackets, and the interception took place in June.

He emphasized that, according to Schedule 4 of the Customs Common External Tariff, importing any military gear by private individuals is strictly forbidden.
Oladeji reassured that the unit is diligently working with credible intelligence sources to track down the importers of these prohibited items.
“An end-user certificate is mandatory for the importation of controlled items and products into Nigeria, which must be issued by the Office of the National Security Adviser.
“These seizures are particularly significant as they represent a security breach due to the absence of the required end-user certificate,” Oladeji stated.
