Nigeria Army confirms raid on IPOB/ESN Camps in Imo, Anambra
The Nigerian Army according to a report released have together with the Nigerian Police and some security agencies raided hideouts and training camps belonging to IPOB/ESN in Orsomoghu forest, spanning Anambra and Imo States.
According to the Army’s estimate, the operation was carried out with 82 division of its combined troops alongside other security outfits of the country.
This was confirmed by Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu in a statement released on Tuesday.
Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu reveals that the troops were alerted about the violent activities of IPOB/ESN in Onitsha, Nnewi and Iheme Obosi in Anambra State, as well as New Market in Enugu State.
The statement reveals that during the operations, the troops cleared IPOB camps in Ekeututu, Orsomoghu, Lilu and Mother Valley camps.
The troops who came for the raid were said to have come into contact with the group’s armed fighters, who detonated IED explosives that were locally made using fabricated mortar turbes.
“The valiant troops however overpowered the irredentist group in the firefight, compelling them to abandon their position as they fled with gunshot wounds into nearby bushes,” the statement said.
Five members of the group were reportedly arrested in the raid and one IPOB flag, a CCTV camera, 2 IED bombs and and a fabricated mortar tube were recovered from the raid on one of the raids on the ESN unit.
5 army officers and2 Police operatives sustained varying degrees of injuries from the IED bombs detonated by the secessionist group.
