In a heartwarming gesture of support and empowerment, Minister for Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy Ohanenye, has uplifted the spirits of 100 brides-to-be by showering them with generous gifts.

At a ceremony held at the palace of the Emir of Kontagora, Alhaji Mohammed Barau Muazu, Ohanenye announced an Empowerment Scheme aimed at enhancing the lives of these brides in the Kontagora local government area of Niger State.

Represented by her Special Assistant on Private Sector, Adaji Usman, the Minister extended her goodwill by gifting the brides 10 Points of Service (POS) machines, facilitating their financial independence.

Additionally, each bride received 350 bags of 10kg rice, essential for their households, and 100 wrappers, symbolizing cultural adornment and celebration.

In a move to encourage education and personal development, Ohanenye promised scholarships to the university level for those brides aspiring to further their studies.

Addressing the gathering, Ohanenye emphasized the importance of ensuring the well-being and autonomy of these brides.

She assured that the brides would be closely monitored in their respective husband’s homes, safeguarding their interests and the objectives of the empowerment scheme.

The Minister’s gesture of kindness and support garnered praise from attendees, including the Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Abdulmalik Sarkindaji, who commended her dedication to uplifting the lives of women and girls in the country.

Emir Mohammed Barau Muazu expressed gratitude for the peaceful resolution of the controversy surrounding the marriage issue and lauded the Minister for her efforts in promoting women’s welfare.
