Flurry of transfer activity between Chelsea and Saudi clubs begins

In what could be a sensational transfer news, Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante has reportedly agreed to join Premier League rivals Arsenal at the end of the ongoing season, according to a new report.

Kante, who has been one of the standout midfielders in the Premier League since arriving at Leicester City from French side Caen in 2015, has won several major titles with Chelsea, including two Premier League trophies, the Champions League, Europa League, and Club World Cup.

However, this season has been challenging for the 32-year-old Frenchman, who suffered a hamstring injury in September that required surgery. Although Kante made his return to action at the beginning of April and has since started three of Chelsea’s last four matches, including both legs of their Champions League quarter-final tie against Real Madrid, his future at Stamford Bridge remains uncertain.

Kante’s contract with Chelsea is set to expire at the end of the current season, and while there have been reports of the Blues being in the final stages of talks with the midfielder to sign a two-year extension, TodoFichajes, a Spanish outlet, claims that Kante has given his approval to a proposal from Arsenal.

According to the report, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has requested the club’s hierarchy to land Kante, who has a unique profile in midfield compared to other players in the Arsenal squad. The Gunners have allegedly proposed a two-year contract to Kante with the option of an additional year.

If the transfer goes through, N’golo Kante would reunite with his former teammate Jorginho, who moved to the Emirates Stadium from Chelsea in January. Interestingly, Arsenal had also enquired about signing Kante in the same month, as confirmed by a representative of the midfielder to French outlet Le Parisien. However, the 32-year-old remained at Stamford Bridge.

Arsenal’s interest in Kante dates back to when Arsene Wenger was in charge, and Kante was at Leicester City. Former Gunners negotiator Dick Law had revealed that the club pulled out of the transfer due to the scale of agent fees involved, with Chelsea swooping in to sign him.

As of now, there has been no official confirmation from either Arsenal or Chelsea regarding Kante’s proposed move to the Emirates Stadium. Nonetheless, if the transfer does materialize, it could prove to be a significant coup for Arsenal, who have struggled in midfield this season and have been looking for a world-class defensive midfielder.
