NFF settles with Bruno Labbadia as Super Eagles head coach

Bruno Labbadia is the man the NFF has settled with for the position of Super Eagles head coach.

After going through all the debates and drama, the NFF goes against the rumored narrative of appointing Herve Rernard as Super Eagles coach, to bring in a sixth German head coach to lead the Nigerian national team.

In its announcement on Tuesday, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) through its Secretary General Mohammed Sanusi, confirmed the NFF Executive Committee have secured German football tactician Bruno Labbadia as the new head coach of the Super Eagles.

The appointment of Bruno Labbadia comes with immediate effect as Nigeria stands on the fringes of World Cup qualification, while eyeing the upcoming AFCON tournament via its qualifiers.

Labbadia, born in Darmstadt, Germany, on February 8, 1966, brings a wealth of experience from top European clubs, including Hertha Berlin and VfB Stuttgart.

His impressive coaching resume also features stints with VfL Wolfsburg, Hamburger SV, and Bayer Leverkusen. With a UEFA Pro License and two caps for the German national team, Labbadia is the sixth German to take charge of the Super Eagles, following a distinguished line of predecessors.

The challenge ahead for Labbadia is nothing short of monumental. His immediate task is to lead the Super Eagles through crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda.

It is unconfirmed if the Nigerian Presidency has anything to do with the appointment, judging from earlier report of the Presidency taking over the responsibility of hiring a new head coach.

With additional matches slated for October and November, Labbadia’s strategic prowess will be put to the ultimate test as he aims to guide Nigeria back to continental glory. Will his European expertise translate into success on African soil, or will the Super Eagles face turbulence under his reign?
