Newly-crowned Miss Nigeria doesn’t believe hijab is a barrier

Newly-crowned 18-year-old Shatu Garko won the 44th Miss Nigeria beauty pageant over the weekend at Landmark Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.

 

This makes her the first hijab model to win a beauty contest for the just concluded Miss Nigeria beauty pageant, and she has come out to make a statement concerning this great feat.

 

She said;

 

“To me, it doesn’t matter what people think. I only believe in what I think. I believe the hijab is not a barrier. I think people shouldn’t criticise but either way I don’t really care. I’m just doing it for me – I am not doing it for anyone.”

 

Garko, from Kano took over from Etsanyi Tukura, from Taraba. Garko walked away with ₦10 million, 1-year residency for one luxury apartment, brand new car, lots of brand ambassadorship opportunities.
