Newcastle United vs. Manchester City: A derby we never knew we wanted
We need to talk about Newcastle United vs. Manchester City, a game that traded in goals and fun on a Sunday afternoon.
The Premier League this weekend was very much a delight viewing for fans and neutrals, specifically when it has to do with shock results for instance the Leeds United vs. Chelsea fixture with Leeds running out 3-0 winners at home to Chelsea.
For the Newcastle United vs. Manchester City game, it was a different ball game entirely, as instead it rained goals from both sides of the divide especially for a Newcastle side looking to lay their stamp with the top sides.
The game started with Manchester City taking the deserved lead at first, which of course was what they normally do. They are Manchester City after all.
But for Newcastle, they felt momentarily in the game like that tough new kid in the block who wasn’t ready to get bullied or anything as they pulled in pressure to hit back at the Cityzens, stealing an equalizer at 1-1 and then a lead at 2-1.
Of course, at this moment, it proved to City that these sides were no longer the Championship side they met last season and if anything, this side knew what they came for this season.
The Newcastle United side held their nerves and again through Kieran Trippier scored a 3rd to make it 3-1 at second half, scaring a Manchester City side into bringing in all they had.
It took new signing and striker, Erling Haaland to give the Etihad side a moment of hope as he reduced the deficit to 3-2 before want away man, Bernardo Silva netted minutes after an equalizer to level the score at 3-3.
For some reason, the game happened to be a derby, and for a lack of better name; the wealth derby or perhaps the wealth-clasico, owing to the fact both clubs now sit on the luxury of having rich owners.
For the first time this season, a tough looking Manchester City side drops point in the Premier League, leaving Arsenal top of the table going into week 4.
