Date fixed for Seun Kuti's arraignment

Yaba Magistrate Court in Lagos has fixed a date for Seun Kuti’s arraignment in Court following his assault on a police officer on Lagos’ Third Mainland bridge some months back.

The Chief Magistrate Court has set out September 27 for his arraignment after the Chief Magistrate, Adeola Olaunbosun who is the presiding judge on the case was reportedly indisposed to precede over Monday’s hearing.

The new date of September 27 makes it the fourth time the case has been adjourned following Seun Kuti’s assault on the uniformed officer on the Third Mainland Bridge.

Seun Kuti’s arraignment to police custody, was called soon after the incident by the former Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba on May 13.

The celebrity in his defense, alleged that the incident was a case of self defense, claiming his assault on the officer was in reaction to his life being threatened by the police officer.

Seun Kuti revealed this via his Instagram handle after the widely publicized incident.

The afrobeat artiste was arrested and held in the state CID in Pati, Yaba for investigation before his release on May 23 after meeting bail conditions.
