Nevest Coleman returns to old Job Back after being Falsely Imprisoned for 23 Years

Sometimes in 1994, Nevest Coleman was falsely imprisoned on charges of rape and murder, when he was 25, the New York Times reports.

Coleman had been accused of raping and killing a woman, and had confessed to the crime after he was coerced – deprived of sleep, punched in the face, and called a racial slur. The police officers had promised leniency if he confessed.

23 years later, with Coleman found innocent and his life in prison sentence vacated, he returned to his old job as a groundskeeper which had been waiting for him.

He walked into his old job as a groundsman with the Chicago White Sox like he never left, walking in with his lunch.

Speaking of his time in prison, Coleman said: “When I was in there I was miserable. But now I got my loved ones behind me. The misery is gone now.”
