NDLEA confiscated 13.6 tonnes of illicit substances, arrested 1,005 suspects in 2023 in Kaduna
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Kaduna State Command, has disclosed that in the year 2023, its officers seized 13,623.204 kg of illegal drugs and detained 1,005 individuals.
Mr Samaila Danmalam, the agency’s State Commander, made this remark to journalists on Friday in Kaduna while reviewing the agency’s actions for the previous year.
Danmalam said that in the previous year, the agency’s officers detained 1,005 individuals, 965 men and 40 females, and collected illegal drugs totaling 13,623.204 kg (13.6 tons).
In 2023, 186 illegal drug joints were demolished, according to him.
“The substances seized included cannabis sativa, cocaine, methamphetamine, tramadol, heroin and other psychotropic substances.
“The command equally secured the conviction of 57 drug offenders.
“In addition, 153 suspects were charged to court while 19 vehicles were forfeited,” Danmalam added.
According to him, the command appreciated the importance of awareness creation to the fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
