Nationwide protests: IGP reacts to close Call in Lagos
The Nigeria Police Force successfully averted a potential catastrophe in Lagos ahead of the nationwide protests when they discovered and safely detonated an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
The discovery, made by the skilled Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Unit, took place on Wednesday along the busy Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way in Ikeja, a day before the scheduled 1st of August nationwide protests.
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun praised the swift response of the officers involved, highlighting the importance of public awareness and vigilance in such critical situations. In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Egbetokun emphasized the need for caution, urging the public to report any suspicious objects or activities.

“Encountering an unfamiliar object can be unsettling,” the statement read, “but it is crucial not to touch or move it. Maintain a safe distance and inform the Police immediately.”
The statement also reassured the public of the ongoing investigation to trace the origins of the IED and dismantle any further threats. Egbetokun called on citizens to remain alert and cooperative, underscoring the collective responsibility in ensuring public safety during these challenging times.
