Muhammed Abubakar Opu, the Secretary of the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen, TopNaija reports.

ASP Ramhan Nansel, Police Public Relations Officer in the state made the disclosure in a statement made available to our Correspondent on Wednesday in Lafia.
He explained that the yet-to-be-identified gunmen numbering about five stormed the house of the NASIEC Secretary located at Bakin Rijiya Village, along Lafia-Shendam Road around 11.45 pm on Tuesday night and kidnapped him to an unknown destination.
According to the statement, “On 25/8/2021 at about 0145hrs, a complaint was lodged at C Division, Lafia that, on 24/8/2021 at about 2345hrs, unknown gunmen numbering about five stormed the residence of the NASIEC Secretary located at Bakin Rijiya Village and kidnapped him.”
The PPRO explained that on receipt of the information, the Commissioner of Police, CP Adesina Soyemi immediately led a detachment of Police personnel from the Command’s Anti Kidnapping unit, Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorism Unit and other tactical units to the scene where he is suspected to have been held captive by his abductors.
ASP Nansel said that the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department has also been directed to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the matter in order to rescue the victim and arrest the perpetrators.
He appealed to members of the public to assist the police with useful information that will help to arrest the criminal elements and rescue the victim.
NASIEC had announced that the commission will conduct Local Government Area elections across the 13 LGAs of the state on October 6th to fill in vacant positions for Chairmen and Councilors.
